Troll in the Temple: Trollgur Drek Meets India’s Leaders Amid Thunder and Tea

By Mountain Quill, April 10, 2025

New Delhi, India — In a meeting that shook both stone and soul, the ancient troll of the north, Trollgur Drek, descended from his misty Norwegian crags and stomped his way into India’s capital this week for a diplomatic gathering like no other.

Clad in mossy robes, with beard long as a monsoon and eyes glowing like glacier fire, Trollgur Drek arrived not in a private jet but upon the back of a Himalayan yak named Snortulfr, leaving behind trails of enchanted fog and a scent of pine and sarcasm.

Tea with Titans

Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several top ministers in the sandstone halls of power, Trollgur offered both wit and wisdom from his ten-thousand-year memory.

“They offered me tea,” said the troll with a grunt. “I offered them fermented birch sap in return. Fair trade, I say—though their eyebrows haven’t quite come back down.”

The leaders discussed climate change (“I remember when the Ganges was a glacier,” Drek mused), technology (“Too many blinking lights. If a stone can’t hold a secret, neither should a phone”), and trade partnerships (“You want Norwegian fjord fungus? It’s chewy but inspiring.”).

Cultural Clash or Curious Kinship?

Indian officials, initially startled by the towering troll’s arrival, soon warmed to his tales and teachings.

“He speaks in riddles and roars,” one minister confided. “But somehow, when he talks about diplomacy, you feel like you’re hearing the mountains themselves speak.”

Trollgur visited Varanasi, where he mistook a temple bell for a dinner gong, and the Taj Mahal, which he called “a nice little rock house for lovebirds.” He also reportedly danced at a Bollywood set in Mumbai, causing a 3.2 on the Richter scale.

Future Alliances Forged in Folklore

Sources close to the troll confirm discussions are underway to establish a new Troll-India Council for Ancient Wisdom and Earthkeeping, focusing on forest preservation, mythological tourism, and possibly a co-written saga starring Hanuman and Trollgur himself.

“I like this land,” the troll said before leaving. “It sings. Not like your modern cities with their blaring horns. But the earth here—it remembers.”

As of this writing, Trollgur has returned to his cave in the fjords, but not before planting a banyan sapling near the banks of the Yamuna, “for shade and old stories,” he said.

Editor’s Note: Indian meteorological services are still investigating the cause of the sudden northern lights sighting over Rajasthan. Trollgur has declined comment, offering only a smirk and the smell of burnt cinnamon.

? Trollgur’s Comments:

  • “They offered me tea in a thimble… polite, but I need a bucket, not a button!”
  • “Fine lads, those ministers—though one mistook my yak for a unicorn. Happens.”
  • “Suits and ties in 40-degree heat? I’ve seen smarter dress sense on tree stumps.”
  • “One chap asked me to invest in AI. I said, ‘Aye, I invest in ancient instincts!’ He didn’t laugh. Shame.”
  • “And what’s with this selfie obsession? I sneezed once and made five TikToks.”
